Blue Panel makes clean sweep in Dhaka Bar Association election

DHAKA, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel (Blue Panel), backed by pro-BNP lawyers, made a clean sweep in the Dhaka Bar Association election for the 2026-2027 term, winning all 23 posts, including the positions of president and general secretary.
 
"Voting was held over two days-Wednesday and Thursday. The results were announced on Friday night after the completion of the vote counting. In the election, the Blue Panel won all 23 posts, including president and general secretary, by a large margin," Dhaka Bar Election Chief Election Commissioner Alhajj Md Borhan Uddin told BSS.
 
In the presidential race, Blue Panel candidate Md Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan was elected with 4,468 votes, defeating his nearest rival, SM Kamal Uddin of the Jamaat-backed Green Panel, who secured 2,179 votes.
 
For the post of general secretary, Blue Panel candidate Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan won with 4,045 votes, while his closest competitor, Abu Bakkar Siddiq of the Green Panel, received 1,661 votes.
 
In the senior vice-president position, Blue Panel's Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was elected with 4,508 votes, defeating Green Panel candidate Md Shahidul Islam, who got 2,224 votes.
 
For the vice-president post, Blue Panel candidate Abul Kalam Azad secured 4,433 votes, while his nearest rival, Md Lutfor Rahman Azad of the Green Panel, received 2,113 votes.
 
In the treasurer post, Blue Panel's Anisuzzaman Anis was elected with 3,947 votes, defeating Green Panel candidate Md Azmat Hossain, who secured 2,505 votes.
 
For the post of senior assistant secretary, Blue Panel candidate Iltushmish Sowdagar Annie was elected with 4,355 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Md Shaheen Akter of the Green Panel, who secured 2,224 votes.
 
In the assistant secretary post, Blue Panel's Mehedi Hasan Jewel won with 3,699 votes, while his closest competitor Md Mehedi Hasan Bhuiyan of the Green Panel received 2,286 votes.
 
For the library secretary position, Blue Panel candidate Khandakar Maksudul Hasan Sabuj secured 4,320 votes, defeating Md Shahadat Hossain of the Green Panel, who got 2,255 votes.
 
In the cultural secretary post, Blue Panel's Marzia Hira was elected with 3,879 votes, while her nearest rival Bilkis Akter of the Green Panel received 2,249 votes.
 
 
For the office secretary position, Blue Panel candidate Md Afzal Hossain Mridha won with 3,940 votes, defeating Md Abdur Razzak of the Green Panel, who secured 2,176 votes.
 
In the sports secretary post, Blue Panel's Md Sohel Khan was elected with 4,094 votes, while his closest competitor Babul Akter Babu of the Green Panel, received 2,510 votes.
 
For the social welfare secretary post, Blue Panel candidate ASM Firoz secured 4,144 votes, defeating Mohammad Shahjahan Molla of the Green Panel, who got 2,533 votes. 

In the information and communication secretary position, Blue Panel's Shafiqul Islam Shafik was elected with 4,597 votes, while his nearest rival Mostafizur Rahman Masud of the Green Panel received 2,079 votes.
 
Besides, the Blue Panel candidates H M Rezwanul Saed Romeo, Farzana Yasmin, Md Adnan Rahman, Md Nizam Uddin, Md Nazrul Islam Mamun, Md Sanaul, Mamun Mia, Mujahidul Islam Sayem, Sheikh Showkat Hossain and Syed Sarwar Alam Nishan were elected as members.
 
In total, 7,069 out of 21,731 eligible members exercised their voting rights in the election.
