Three sent to jail over attack on Shah Ali shrine

DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent three people to jail in a case lodged over an attack on the shrine of Hazrat Shah Ali in the capital’s Mirpur on May 14.

The three accused are Md Azam, Sheikh Md Sajjadul Haque Russel, and Arman Dewan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam passed the order as police produced the trio before the court after end of two-day remand and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

Earlier on May 17, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman had placed the three on a two-day remand each.

A group of unidentified people attacked and vandalised the shrine during a weekly urs on Thursday, injuring a couple of devotees. The case was filed on May 16.
