11 more children die from measles, measles-like symptoms

DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - Eleven more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, including two confirmed measles cases and nine suspected cases.

During the same period, the number of suspected measles patients nationwide stood at 1,264, while 73 confirmed measles cases were identified. A total of 1,337 children were affected by measles, according to a press release issued by the Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the release, the number of suspected measles patients recorded in the last 24 hours was 1,264, while the total number of suspected cases reported from March 15 to May 19 reached 56,586.

An analysis of the press release showed that, in the past 24 hours, the number of suspected measles patients was 544 in Dhaka Division, 78 in Rajshahi Division, 230 in Chattogram Division, 147 in Barishal Division, 70 in Mymensingh Division, 95 in Sylhet Division, 90 in Khulna Division, and 10 in Rangpur Division.

The number of confirmed measles cases during the last 24 hours was 73, raising the total confirmed cases since March 15 to 7,929.

From March 15 to May 19, a total of 43,983 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals, while 40,090 patients recovered and were discharged during the same period.

Including the two deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths from confirmed measles has risen to 77. Meanwhile, with nine more deaths reported from suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths from suspected measles has reached 398.

So far, the highest number of suspected measles cases — 27,365 — has been recorded in Dhaka Division. Of them, 5,564 were confirmed as measles cases.
