RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2026 (BSS)- An exchange of views meeting on Bangladesh-Indonesia bilateral economic relations was held between the Ambassador of Indonesia and the Board of Directors of the Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
The meeting was presided over by RCCI President Hasen Ali held at the chamber building conference hall on Thursday.
The welcome address was delivered by RCCI Vice President Ziauddin Ahmed. At the meeting, the Rajshahi Chamber gave a detailed presentation to the guests on the exportable products of the Rajshahi region, such as jute, potatoes, silk, handicrafts and mango.
Speaking on the occasion, RCCI Senior Vice President Shamsur Rahman Shanton said a more favorable tariff environment is needed for bilateral trade.
Under the current MFN tariff structure, potatoes are subject to over 20 percent duty, plus 12 percent VAT and 2.5 percent income tax. As a result, despite the high quality of the products, it becomes difficult for our exporters to compete in the Indonesian market.
He further said the Rajshahi Chamber is ready, through your embassy, to support B2B matchmaking, joint trade fairs, and private sector engagement.
The guests were also briefed on the huge potential of the tourism industry in Rajshahi.
In her speech as chief guest, Ambassador H.E. Ms. Listyowati said: “I am impressed by the sincere welcome and hospitality of the Rajshahi Chamber authorities.”
“I hope that through today's visit and participation in this open discussion, the commercial relations between the two countries will be further strengthened, and that by resolving the existing business barriers through dialogue, it will help establish a more effective relationship between the business communities of the two regions in the future,” she added.
In conclusion, RCCI President Hasen Ali expressed sincere thanks to the chief guest and all members of her delegation, and expressed hope for working together in the future.
Also in attendance were former director Mamunur Rahman, President of the Silk Industry Owners Association Liakat Ali, President of the Rajshahi Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rosetty Naznin, Director Tahera Hasen, President of WEB Anjuman Ara Parvin Lipi, and Rajshahi Chamber members Nasrin Akter Mila, Afroza Aziz, Engineer Ariful Islam, and Umme Haj Siddika, among others.
