RAJSHAHI, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - Stakeholders and business leaders have underscored the importance of strengthening three dimensional (3D)-- river, air and road connectivity to attract greater domestic and foreign investment and accelerate employment generation in the Rajshahi region.

They expressed the views at a consultation meeting on investment and employment generation organized by the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) in Rajshahi on Saturday.

Participants said improved connectivity would enhance trade and industrial activities, helping transform Rajshahi into a vibrant economic hub of North Bengal.

President of the Bangladesh Silk Industry Owners Association Md Liakat Ali highlighted the potential of revitalizing the Padma River waterway, modernizing Hazrat Shah Makhdum (R.) Airport and upgrading key highways to facilitate business expansion and reduce transportation costs.

He said improved navigability on regional river routes, expansion of airport cargo facilities and development of four-lane highways would create a more investment-friendly environment and open new opportunities for industries, exports and employment.

Speakers also stressed the need for seamless connectivity with Sona Masjid land port and the proposed industrial and economic zones to maximize the region's economic potential.

Additional Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman attended the meeting as chief guest, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabur Ali presided over the event.
