Charges framed against 21 in scrap metal trader Sohag murder case

DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today framed charges against 21 accused in a case lodged over the brutal murder of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag in the capital's Mitford area on July 9, 2025.

Judge Mosaddek Minhaj of the Dhaka 1st Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order and fixed July 19 for the commencement of witness testimony, bench official Shahdat Ali told BSS.

Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag, 39, was hacked, beaten and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka on July 9, 2025. His sister, Monjuara Begum, filed the case the following day against 19 people.

Police submitted a charge sheet on December 29, 2025, accusing 21 people in connection with the murder. Of them, 10 have been arrested and remain in jail, while three others were arrested but later released on bail. The remaining eight accused are still at large.
