DMP arrests 93, seizes 54kg cannabis

DHAKA, July 13, 2026 (BSS) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 93 people in a series of anti-crime and anti-drug operations across the capital over the past two days, seizing 54 kilograms of cannabis and vehicles allegedly used for drug trafficking.

Police said 30 suspects were arrested during separate raids in Mugda, Uttara West and Turag on Sunday, while another 30 were detained in a special operation in Mirpur Model on Monday. 

The detainees include suspects in regular and warrant-related cases, as well as individuals accused of various criminal offences. 

Police also recovered 40 grams of cannabis during the Uttara West operation.

In a separate operation early Monday, traffic police and Jatrabari police arrested three alleged drug traffickers after intercepting a private car at a checkpoint in Jatrabari. 

Officers seized 44kg of cannabis and impounded the vehicle.

In another anti-drug raid late Sunday, Khilkhet police arrested three people at the Mastul checkpoint and recovered 10kg of cannabis from a microbus, which was also seized.

Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against all those arrested.
