CHATTOGRAM, July 13, 2026 (BSS)- Customs and intelligence personnel seized 2.16 kilograms (KGs) of illicit gold valued at approximately Taka 3.56 crore from a passenger arriving from Dubai at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram this morning.

The gold was recovered during a joint operation conducted by the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), airport officials said.

The individual, identified as Mohammad Shahidul Alam Chowdhury, a resident of Mirsarai upazila, landed on a FlyDubai flight at 9:40 am. Following a tip-off, members of the intelligence bodies apprehended him while he attempted to navigate through the Customs' Green Channel.

Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil confirmed that a thorough search uncovered melted gold and jewelry that had been intentionally hidden within the passenger's underwear and pajama belt. The confiscated gold is in the process of being handed over to airport customs.

Authorities have indicated that steps are being taken to initiate a criminal case against Chowdhury for smuggling. Airport officials highlighted that a collaborative task force—comprising the NSI, DGFI, Customs Intelligence, and the Civil Aviation Authority—has significantly enhanced monitoring efforts to combat the illegal trafficking of gold and foreign currency through Chattogram.

In addition, customs authorities are preparing to file a case in connection with the seizure, the official added.
