BGB arrests smuggler with 8 gold bars worth Tk 1.76cr in Chuadanga

DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) –The Paramilitary Force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested an alleged gold smuggler along with eight gold bars worth about Tk 1.76 crore from the Damurhuda border area in Chuadanga district while smuggling the consignment into India.

Acting on a tip-off, Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB) intercepted a motorcyclist on the road in front of Munshipur BOP after he arrived from Karpasdanga Bazar at around 11:40am, said a BGB press release this afternoon.

During a search conducted in the presence of local people, the patrol team recovered eight gold bars wrapped with tape and concealed in the folds of his lungi.

“The price of the seized gold bars is estimated to be around Tk 17, 601, 230,” the release said. BGB also seized a button mobile phone and the suspect's DY-50 motorcycle.

The detainee was identified as Md Mizanur Rahman, 61, son of late Soleman Molla of Pirpurkulla village under Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district.

They were handed over to Damurhuda Police Station for legal action, while the process of depositing the confiscated gold bars with the Chuadanga Treasury Office is underway, the release added.
