Ex-MP Kabirul shown arrested in attempted murder case

DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today showed former Member of Parliament (MP from Narail-1 constituency BM Kabirul Haque (Mukti) in a case lodged over alleged attempt to murder madrasa student during 2024 July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order as police produced Kabirul before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case. The court later sent him back to jail.

According to the case documents, anti-discrimination student movement activists brought out a rally in the Banshtola area, south of Bhatara Police Station on July 19, 2024. At one stage, the rally came under attack and madrasa student Nazim Uddin got shot on his head. A total of 180 pellets pierced into his head, of which 127 were later removed.

Nazim’s aunt filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in this connection.
