DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Police Women Network (BPWN) today held a divisional consultation here on implementing its Strategic Plan (2024–2027), aimed at strengthening women's leadership, professional skills and gender-responsive policing.

Held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh, the workshop brought together 160 police personnel from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Dhaka Range and specialised units, with women making up 80 percent of participants.

Inaugurating the event, DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said BPWN would continue supporting Bangladesh Police in building a more inclusive, capable and responsive institution.

Acting Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka Range M.A. Jalil said gender-responsive policing was not only about increasing women's representation but also ensuring fair, effective and sensitive policing for all citizens.

European Union Delegation Team Leader Enrico Lorenzon said successful implementation of the strategic plan would depend on national leadership, institutional commitment and sustained action, enabling police personnel to work in a safer environment and better serve women and girls.

The workshop featured sessions on the BPWN Strategic Plan, cybercrime awareness, mental well-being and implementation of gender-responsive policing practices, including measures to prevent workplace sexual harassment.

Established in 2008, BPWN works to promote women's leadership and professional development within Bangladesh Police.

The force currently has 17,970 female personnel, accounting for 9.07 percent of its total strength. The initiative is supported by UN Women under a European Union-funded project to combat sexual and gender-based violence in Bangladesh.
