Akheri Chahar Shamba to be observed on Aug 12

DHAKA, July 15, 2026 (BSS) - The holy Akheri Chahar Shamba will be observed across Bangladesh on August 12 as the moon of the holy month of Safar for the 1448 Hijri was sighted in the country's skies today, the National Moon Sighting Committee announced.

With the sighting of the Safar moon, the month of Safar will begin tomorrow, July 16, according to an Islamic Foundation (IF) press release.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held this evening at the conference room of the IF at Baitul Mukarram in the capital.

Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad chaired the meeting.

The committee reached the decision after reviewing reports on the sighting of the Safar moon received from all Deputy Commissioners' offices, the Islamic Foundation's headquarters and its divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO).

The holy Akheri Chahar Shamba will be observed marking the recovery of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) from prolonged illness.
