
DHAKA, July 18, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed Tanim Reza Bappi and
his associate Rakibul Islam Bhuiyan on a seven-day remand each in a case
filed over allegedly extorting a businessman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam passed the order after police
produced the duo before the court and sought a seven-day remand for each of
them in the case.
Police arrested Bappi from the capital's Dilkusha area on Friday while
Rakibul was arrested from the Kamalapur area. Acting on information provided
by the accused, law enforcers later conducted a raid at Bappi's office in
South Kamalapur and recovered one foreign-made revolver, two foreign-made
pistols, five rounds of revolver ammunition, two rounds of pistol ammunition,
two magazines, an electric stun gun and a Chinese-made axe.
According to the case documents, the accused called complainant Ismail
Hossain on May 15 and allegedly pressured him to appoint a person nominated
by them as a partner in the sacrificial cattle market. Bappi also allegedly
demanded Taka 10 lakh in extortion.
The case documents further said the accused opened fire at Ismail's office on
May 19. Ismail filed the case with Motijheel Police Station the following
day.
