TANGAIL, July 18, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said small and medium-scale poultry farmers will be provided with easy-term loans, similar to agricultural credit, to further strengthen and ensure the sustainability of the country's poultry industry.

He made the announcement while speaking as the chief guest at a poultry farmers' gathering and views-exchange meeting organized by the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Association (BPIA) at Tangail Model City.

Tuku said the country's poultry industry will be made stronger and more sustainable by reducing production costs, keeping feed prices affordable, and ensuring the production of safe food.

He added that several rounds of discussions have already been held with BPIA leaders, feed producers, raw material suppliers, and representatives of day-old chick producing companies to address the challenges faced by small poultry farmers.

Necessary measures will be taken in consultation with all stakeholders to bring these problems to a manageable level, he said.

The state minister said ensuring safe food is everyone's responsibility. In this regard, he stressed the need to strengthen the monitoring activities of upazila and thana livestock officers.

He also emphasized that unnecessary use of antibiotics must be stopped and that safe poultry production should be promoted in accordance with veterinarians' advice.

Tuku further said that the government will try to take effective initiatives through discussions with relevant businesses to keep poultry feed prices affordable.

He noted that a sustainable poultry industry would create employment opportunities for millions of people and play a vital role in meeting the country's demand for animal protein.

Therefore, the government is committed to the development and sustainable growth of the sector, he said.

Department of Livestock Services director (admin) Dr. Md. Bayzer Rahman, BPIA President Mosharraf Hossain Chowdhury, Secretary General M. Safir Rahman and Dr. Mohammad Usman Gani were present, among others, with Shawkat Ali Mollah, President of the Tangail District Branch of BPIA in the chair.

In addition to marginal, small, and medium poultry farmers from across the district, political leaders and BPIA leaders at various levels were also present at the event.
