SYLHET, July 18, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Humayun Kabir today said justice would be ensured for journalist ATM Turab, who was killed in police firing while covering the student-led anti-discrimination protests in Sylhet on July 19, 2024.
Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting for the slain journalist at the Sylhet Press Club, he said he would urge the Prime Minister and the Law Minister to give priority to the case.
"I will personally speak to the Prime Minister within the next two to three days so that those involved in Turab's killing, as well as other similar heinous crimes, are arrested quickly and brought to justice," he said.
Describing Turab as a source of inspiration for all, Humayun Kabir pledged to ensure that everyone responsible for the killing is brought to justice. He also called on both the government and the opposition to raise the issue of Turab's murder in parliament.
Referring to the July uprising, he said the country had reached its present stage through the sacrifices of around 1,500 people, adding that Turab's blood was among those shed during the movement in Sylhet.
