Fake cigarette production detected behind seed processing centre in Mirpur

DHAKA, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) today detected a fake cigarette manufacturing operation being run in disguise of a seed processing centre in the Mirpur-1 area of the capital.

The CIID, a field office of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), conducted the operation based on a tip-off today.

According to the CIID, its officials raided the premises of Krishibid Seed Limited—Seed Processing Centre in the Goran Chatbari area of Mirpur-1 and detected the fake cigarette manufacturing activities.

During the raid, officials found cigarettes, raw materials, packaging materials, manufacturing equipment and various related documents at the site. A detailed inventory and verification of the seized materials are currently underway.

Members of the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 also participated in the operation.

The CIID said further legal action would be taken based on the seized materials and information gathered after completion of the operation.
