
DHAKA, Sept 5, 2026 (BSS) – Five people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Cumilla and Bogura districts today.
In Gazipur, two passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between the auto-rickshaw and a covered van in Chairmarman Bari area under Kaliakair upazila of the district today.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred around 11.30 am on the Kaliakair-Phulbaria-Mawna when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a covered van, leaving four passengers and CNG driver injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared two injured dead.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam confirmed the incident.
Legal proceedings in connection with the accident are underway, the OC said.
In Cumilla, two people were killed in separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chauddagram upazila of the district this morning.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 22, son of Abdur Rahim of Baidderkhil village under Chauddagram municipality and Abul Hashem, 70, a resident of Chatitola area of the municipality.
According to police and local sources, the first accident occurred around 11.00 am in Batisa Gobinda Manikya Dighi area when a speeding motorcycle lost control and rammed into the rear of a trolley travelling ahead.
The motorcycle rider, Abdur Rahman, sustained critical injuries. Locals rescued him and took him to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Trolley driver Abdus Sobhan, a resident of Basantapur village, was also injured in the accident. He is undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.
In another accident earlier in the morning, pedestrian Abul Hashem was seriously injured after being hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle while crossing the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway near Chauddagram Madhyamik Pilot Girls’ School. He was later taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Locals said Hashem had been living in a rented house in Chatitola area of Chauddagram municipality for a long time.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Miyabazar Highway Police Station Ruhul Amin confirmed the matters.
The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after completion of necessary legal procedures, he added.
In Bogura, an elderly motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in Murail area under Kahalu upazila of the district this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sirajul Haque Khan, 70, son of Roich Uddin Khan of Kaichar area in Bogura Sadar upazila.
According to Kahalu Police Station Sub-Inspector Nur Islam, the accident occurred around 4:00 pm when Sirajul was crossing the Naogaon-Bogura highway near Murail Bazar on his motorcycle.
At that time, a truck loaded with paddy, heading towards Bogura from Naogaon, hit his motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police seized the truck and arrested its driver in connection with the accident, the police official said, adding that legal proceedings are underway.
