DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Police recovered a stolen Yamaha R15 motorcycle and arrested two alleged thieves after the victim’s family alerted the national emergency service 999 while the suspects were trying to flee by speedboat.

At around 3am on Saturday, a caller from Mirpur contacted 999, reporting that his younger brother’s motorcycle had been stolen from Borhanuddin in Bhola and was being taken towards Barishal by river, said a press release.

The motorcycle’s GPS tracker showed that it was being transported by water, prompting 999 to immediately relay its location to Barishal Port Police Station for action.

Acting on the information, a police team recovered the motorcycle, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-L-60-0037, as two suspects were getting off a speedboat at Laharhat ferry terminal in Barishal.

The arrested suspects were identified as Md Shakil Hossain, 22, and Md Nihad, 19, both from Borhanuddin, Bhola.

Police said the motorcycle belonged to Md Siam Hossain Rony, 21, who later filed a case over the theft.
