
DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested eight people named in the case over the killing of Special Branch Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain in Savar's Aminbazar from Munshiganj and Aminbazar within 24 hours of the murder.
RAB-10 Commander Additional DIG Mohammad Asaduzzaman made the disclosure today at a press briefing at the RAB Media Centre, Kawran Bazar in the capital.
"Four accused were arrested by RAB-10 from Munshiganj within 24 hours of the incident, while RAB-4 arrested four others from Aminbazar," he said.
The four arrested by RAB-10 were Alauddin, 26, Apon, 30, Jihad, 20, and Imran, 26, all from Aminbazar. RAB-4 arrested Nur Mohammad Rudra, 24, Rakib Mia, 28, Sabbir Ahmed, 24, and Wasim, 40
Altaf, 58, was beaten to death on Saturday night after he protested the assault of an auto-rickshaw garage owner in the Bordeshi area over the parking of an auto-rickshaw.
According to RAB, the attackers later chased Altaf and his son into a garment factory, where they allegedly broke the gate and attacked them with sticks and locally made weapons.
Altaf was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The arrested suspects will be handed over to the respective police stations for legal proceedings.
