DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) -The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) arrested eight people in separate operations targeting an online gambling syndicate and a fake digital loan scam, seizing hundreds of SIM cards and electronic devices.

The DB Cyber and Special Crime (South) division arrested seven alleged members of an online gambling syndicate from Jashore and Madaripur early Monday. 

Police identified the alleged ringleader as Sagar Shikdar, 32.

The team seized 484 SIM cards linked to bKash and Nagad accounts, 46 smartphones, eight laptops, 27 bank cards, three diaries and two cars. 

Police said the group supplied MFS wallets to online gambling platforms and facilitated their transactions.

In a separate operation, the DB Cyber and Special Crime (North) division arrested Mehedi Hasan Mahin, 19, in Jamalpur for allegedly running a fake digital loan platform called “Grameen Loan”.

Police said the group lured victims with online loan offers and demanded a 10 percent “security deposit” through bKash, Nagad or Rocket before displaying a fake loan amount on a bogus dashboard.

A laptop, four mobile phones and 61 SIM cards were seized from Mahin. Police also found the fake loan website and Facebook page logged in on his devices.

Cases have been filed and the arrested suspects were sent to court.
