Youth, junior handball teams suffer defeat

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2025 (BSS) - The Bangladesh national youth and junior handball 
teams lost their respect matches in the qualifying round of IHF Men's 
Handball Trophy 2024-Asia held in Lucknow, the capital of Indian state of 
Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

On the day, the Bangladesh U-18 youth handball team suffered 35-29 goals 
defeat to their Indian counterpart after trailing the first half by 17-15 
goals.

While Uzbekistan junior U-20 handball team beat Bangladesh junior handball 
team by 37-12 goals after leading the first half by 15-3 goals.
Earlier on Friday last, Bangladesh youth and junior handball teams lost both 
their respective opening matches.

A total of eight teams -- two teams of youth and junior category - from four 
countries are taking part in the meet, organized by International Handball 
Federation.

The participating countries are Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and host 
India. The winners of the tournament will directly qualify in the World Cup.

The Bangladesh handball teams are expected to return home on January 8.

U-20 Junior handball team - Rubel Ahmed   (captain), Md Ashikur Rahman Fahim 
(vice captain) Siam Ahmed, Md Nayon Ahammed, Newan Chak, Prem Chan, Arickson 
Biswas Dip,Md Ratul Hasan, Al Muktadir Mahin, Aungtaimong Marma, Md Sharia 
Nafiz, Md Abu Bakkar Siddik, Md Sihab Uddin and Md Mohayminul Haque.
