Sports, cultural activities prevent students from negative activities: BRUR  VC

RANGPUR, Feb 11, 2025 (BSS) - Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya 
University, Rangpur (BRUR) Professor Dr. Md. Showkat has said sports and 
cultural activities prevent students and youth from negative activities and 
help in developing leadership. 
 
"The positive mindset, acquired by students and youth through their sports 
activities, can be used for the welfare of the university and the country," 
he said.
 
He said this at a prize distribution ceremony of the Inter-departmental 
Volleyball and Badminton Tournament-2025 organised by the Office of the 
Physical Education at the Independence Memorial Ground in the campus as the 
chief guest. 
 
Director of the Office of Physical Education Dr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman chaired 
the function.
 
In the girls' volleyball game, the Computer Science and Engineering 
Department defeated the Management Information Systems Department while 
Accounting and Information Systems Department defeated the Political Science 
Department in the boys' volleyball game to become the champions. 
 
In the afternoon, in a festive atmosphere, the Gender and Development Studies 
Department defeated the Sociology Department in the girls' badminton game and 
became the champion. 
 
The Mathematics Department defeated the Marketing Department and became the 
champion in the boys' badminton game. 
 
The VC said that the sports competition was completed very well with the 
dedicated efforts of everyone. 
 
He also distributed prizes among the winners of the two games. 
 
Among others, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Md Ferdous 
Rahman, Proctor Dr. Md. Ferdous Rahman and Head of the Department of 
Accounting and Information Systems Umar Faruk spoke at the closing ceremony.
 
Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall Provost Prof Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Bijoy 24 Hall 
Provost Md. Amir Sharif, Shaheed Felani Hall Provost Dr. Prof Sifat Rumana 
along with teachers and students from various departments were present.
