NETRAKONA, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - A fire gutted five shops, including oil-gas cylinder, grocery and garment shops, at Birampur Bazaar in Borokashia Birampur Union under Mohanganj upazila on Friday evening.

Local sources said the fire erupted around 7pm at Shahin Mia's diesel and gas-cylinder shop and, following a cylinder explosion, quickly spread to four adjacent shops. Despite efforts, locals failed to bring the flames under control.

The affected shops belonged to Shahin Mia, Bablu, Shahid, Hriday and Md. Ripon Mia, causing panic among traders in the area.

On receiving information, a Fire Service team rushed to the spot and, with assistance from locals, brought the blaze under control after about an hour.

Fire Service officer Kamruzzaman Sumon said a preliminary investigation indicated that the fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit. He estimated the damage at Tk 5-6 lakh, adding that the loss may increase after a full assessment.
No casualties were reported.

Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam of Mohanganj Police Station also said the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.
