DHAKA, April 5, 2025 (BSS) -Mohammedan Sporting Club management appointed middle order batter Towhid Hridoy as the captain of the team for the remaining matches of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after Tamim Iqbal was ruled out following a cardiac arrest.
After surviving the heart attack, Tamim’s cricketing career has been at the edge and it was not sure if he will be able to make a comeback.
Tamim is now preparing to travel to Singapore for a second opinion on his heart condition, provided he is deemed fit to fly.
Mohammedan had formed a formidable team to claim the DPL title for the first time after 2008 with Tamim Iqbal at the helm. While Hridoy admitted that Tamim’s absence will create a huge void, he vowed to take the challenge.
“You have to face challenge always in cricket,” Hridoy said here today.
“Challenge is not new for us. So, I will try to enjoy it. And I will try to contribute as much as I can to the team in this regard.”
Mohammedan team is mostly formed with the national players, a large bulk of whom will join the national team after April 9 for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. Hridoy though is a settled national player; he is yet to make a room in Test squad.
“Players will join the national team for national duty and it’s normal in DPL perspective. But Mohammedan is a team with big-budget,” he remarked.
“So, we have still many players who can fill the void. We’ll try to do well with whatever we have.”
Terming Tamim as irreplaceable, Hridoy said still it’s a chance for a newcomer to cement his place in the team.
“We have some good players who still didn’t get the chance to play. They need opportunities. We will try to make the most of the opportunity whenever it comes.”
