DHAKA,July 7, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh women's football team returned home early Monday from Myanmar after making history by qualifying for the Asian Cup final stage for the first time.

They landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 2am. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) officials welcomed the girls at the airport.

Later, the girls were taken to the Hatirjheel Amphi Theatre where they were given a warm reception.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, BFF President Tabith Awal, officials and football fans were present on the occasion.

At the reception ceremony, the BFF president praised all the members of national women's football team for the success.

Addressing the women's football team, Tabith Awal said he wanted to thank the women's footballers not only on behalf of Bangladesh, but also on behalf of all Bangladeshis around the world, and on behalf of the entire women's community.

Tabith said Bangladesh football will move forward. Bangladesh is now a country of women's equality and empowerment. We will never go backwards from here. We won't let women fall behind anymore. You have fought for the country, for the women's society.

Despite the late hour, thousands of spectators gathered to welcome the Bangladesh team. They were chanting 'Bangladesh, Bangladesh'.

Ritu Porna Chakma, the architect of Bangladesh's history by scoring a brace against Myanmar, thanked the spectators for welcoming them so late at night.

Then, the footballer also thanked BFF President Tabith Awal and Women's Wing Chairman Mahfuza Akhter Kiron.

Ritu Porna said, "The level we have reached today is a result of teamwork. Football is not an individual sport. We know how to fight in difficult situations. If you trust us, we will not disappoint you. We want to take Bangladesh to the world stage, not just Asia."

Bangladesh team head coach Peter Butler also spoke about the tireless work behind the girls' success.

He said the victory would not have been possible without the players' best efforts.
