Jaker makes giant leap in ICC rankings

DHAKA, July 9, 2025 (BSS)—Bangladesh batter Jaker Ali Anik gained big in the latest ICC rankings for batters despite his side lost three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-1. 

Jaker, the wicketkeeper-batter has made a huge stride by moving up 32 places to 59th in the updated ODI batter rankings published on the ICC website today.

In the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, Jaker scored 102 runs at an average of 34 and at a strike rate of 73.38. The highest score was 51. 

Another Bangladeshi batter—Towhid Hridoy has made a good improvement in the ODI rankings. Hridoy, the second highest run-scorer among Bangladeshi batter in the Sri Lanka series (103) at an average of 34.33 in 3 innings), has moved up seven places to 51st.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who suffered a run drought in the Sri Lanka series, has dropped six places to 34th. 

Bangladesh's ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz also faced a slump. Miraz who scored a total of 37 runs in three matches moved down five places to 72nd.
 
Liton Das, who played just one match, has dropped eight places to 78th.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim who scored a fifty in one of the three innings in the Sri Lanka series has improved 19 places to 86th place.

No Bangladeshi batter is among the top 30 batters in the ODI rankings. There is no change in the position of the batters in the top five with Indian opener Shubman Gill at the top with 784 rating points. Pakistan's Babar Azam is second with 766 rating points. 

Mushfiqur Rahim has dropped one place in the rankings of Test batsmen. Mushfiqur, who dropped to 30th place, is at the top of the Test rankings amongst Bangladesh batters.

Mominul Haque has also dropped one place to 53rd and Jaker Ali has moved up one place to 65th.

There has been no change in the top 10  in the Test bowlers' rankings. As usual, India's Jasprit Bumrah is at the top, followed by South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Australia's Pat Cummins. Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam has moved up one place to 15th in the Test bowlers' rankings.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed has moved up two places to 26th in the ODI bowlers' rankings.
