LONDON, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Championship strugglers Southampton responded to Will Still's sacking by ending their losing streak with a 2-1 victory against QPR on Wednesday.
Teenager Jay Robinson's deflected strike put Southampton ahead early in the second half at Loftus Road.
Leo Scienza's brilliant goal doubled Southampton's advantage and, although Rumarn Burrell got one back for the hosts, QPR were unable to avoid a third consecutive defeat.
Saturday's home defeat against Preston -- Southampton's third consecutive loss -- had triggered former Lens boss Still's dismissal on Sunday after just seven months in charge.
The Saints, with Under-21s coach Tonda Eckert in interim charge, quickly moved on from Still's exit thanks to their first win in six games.
Southampton were expected to challenge for promotion after last season's relegation from the Premier League, but instead find themselves in 19th place in the second tier.
Preston moved up to fourth place as Thierry Small stole the spotlight in a 2-1 win over Swansea at Deepdale.
Small scored in eye-catching fashion from 30 yards in the eighth minute and Milutin Osmajic netted after 49 minutes with his fourth goal this season.
Eom Ji-sung came off the bench to reduce the deficit with an 80th-minute curler, but Preston's third consecutive league win left Swansea languishing in 17th place.
Third-bottom Norwich salvaged a 1-1 draw from their trip to fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
Barry Bannan put bottom of the table Wednesday ahead with a fine individual goal early on, but Norwich substitute Mathias Kvistgaarden equalised after the break to end his team's six-match losing run.
Arthur Okonkwo made two superb second-half saves to earn Wrexham a point in a 0-0 draw at Portsmouth.
