DHAKA, Nov 8, 2025 (BSS)— Gamini de Silva got a farewell from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today after ending 15-year long service here.
His colleagues and grounds staff arranged a farewell reception for him at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium where he worked as a chief curator.
Later, the BCB organized a separate farewell reception for him and handed him a crest for his contribution. He was showered with gifts and love from everyone. There was emotion in the eyes and faces of many of his colleagues.
This Sri Lankan, who had turned curator from umpire, joined the BCB on two-year contract in October 2010. His contract was extended repeatedly, making him spend here a decade and a half. He was responsible for making the Mirpur wicket. However, last September, he faced fresh controversy by making a substandard pitch in the T20 series against Pakistan. The Pakistan captain and coach publicly complained about the quality of the wicket.
In July this year, the BCB signed a new one-year contract with him. But Gamini is returning home with nine months left on that contract. As per the terms, he is being paid two months' salary. He will return to Sri Lanka on November 10.
