DHAKA, Dec 4, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Women's team all-rounder, Shorna Akter,
has stressed the importance of the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL)
in preparing for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier next January.
Shorna, along with her teammates, is currently undergoing a mandatory fitness
camp, which serves as the foundation for their upcoming skill training
sessions.
"Our fitness camp started yesterday and will run for seven days. We report
back on the 12th, and the BCL begins on the 15th," Shorna said. "We believe
the BCL will be a crucial stepping stone in our preparation for the T20 World
Cup Qualifier."
The BCL holds particular significance this year, especially after the
postponement of Bangladesh's scheduled tour to India. The league provides the
team with vital competitive game time ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.
Reflecting on the Women's ODI World Cup earlier this year, Shorna shared her
thoughts on the team's performance. During the tournament, she made a
significant mark, scoring Bangladesh's fastest-ever ODI fifty and taking six
wickets with her leg-spin.
"It was a good experience," Shorna said. "However, we feel that we should
have won a few more matches to make our journey even more memorable.
Unfortunately, we lost three matches that were within our reach."
Despite the record half-century, she has the disappointment of not finishing
on a higher note.
"Personally, I felt I performed well in only one match, against South Africa.
Whenever the captain handed me the ball, I always tried to give my best."
