DHAKA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - Wicketkeeper-batter Akbar Ali is hopeful about
proving his credentials as a pure batter in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier
League (BPL) T20 tournament, should he secure a spot in the star-studded
Rajshahi Warriors squad.

"Every player wants to play, and I'm no exception. I hope I get that chance,"
Akbar said after a practice session with the Rajshahi Warriors at the Sher-e-
Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

"Ultimately, the management will decide who plays and who doesn't. If my
chance comes, I'll make sure to take full advantage."

Traditionally a wicketkeeper-batter, Akbar will have a slightly different
role this season. The team management has entrusted veteran Mushfiqur Rahim
with the wicketkeeping duties, allowing Akbar to focus purely on his batting.

Akbar expressed his understanding of the decision and his readiness to adapt.
"I am ready to play in any role. I will give my best, regardless of the
position I am asked to play. The main goal is to perform well, whatever the
responsibility."

Mushfiqur, 38, was seen working on his wicketkeeping skills during training
after head coach Hannan announced him as the team's primary gloveman. Akbar
is excited to have him as a teammate.

"Mushfiqur bhai is a legend. Having him in the team is a big blessing.
There's a lot to learn from him," Akbar added. "Every player can take
something from his experience, and we'll all try to learn as much as
possible."

Akbar's confidence is high after a series of successful months. He led
Rangpur Division to titles in both the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 and
the four-day competition. Additionally, he captained Bangladesh A to the
final of the ACC Emerging Asia Cup earlier this year, further establishing
himself as both a leader and a performer.

Although Akbar is yet to break into the national team, unlike many of his
Under-19 teammates, he has been in strong form, finishing as the second-
highest run-scorer in the NCL T20 with 222 runs at a strike rate of 147.
These impressive stats underscore his growing confidence and adaptability in
the shorter format.

Akbar is now eager to carry that form into the BPL to strengthen his case for
a national team call-up. "I'm really keen to keep up my form. Hopefully, if I
earn a spot in the Rajshahi team, I'll have a good BPL."
