DHAKA, April 20, 2026 (BSS)-New Zealand captain Tom Latham decided to bat first after winning the toss in the second ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

The visitors retained the same XI that secured a 26-run victory in the opening match, as they look to clinch a second consecutive ODI series win on Bangladeshi soil, following their 2-1 triumph in 2023, their first in the country since 2008.

Bangladesh made one change to their line up, bringing back Soumya Sarkar in place of Afif Hossain as they aim to level the series.

Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz stressed the importance of capitalizing on key moments in the must-win encounter.

"I think it's a great opportunity for everyone. If we play well, definitely we will win," Miraz said, adding that early breakthroughs would be crucial. "We need to get some wickets in the first 10 overs. I am confident about our bowling unit because we have a very good pace attack."

He also pointed to missed chances in the first ODI, suggesting that holding onto catches could have restricted New Zealand to a lower total.

Latham, meanwhile, expects conditions to remain similar despite a slightly different surface.

"It looks like a slightly different surface than the other day, but it still looks reasonably dry underneath. Hopefully it shows similar characteristics," he said. "For us, it's about playing what's in front of us."

Line Ups:

Bangladesh: Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Liton Das(w), Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar, Mehidy Hasan Miraz(c), Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana

New Zealand: Henry Nicholls, Nick Kelly, Will Young, Tom Latham(w/c), Muhammad Abbas, Dean Foxcroft, Josh Clarkson, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Jayden Lennox, William Orourke
