Ataur Rahman emerges as champion

DHAKA, May 8, 2026(BSS)- Md. Ataur Rahman emerged as champion in the Dhaka Chess Academy 15th FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament held at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room today (Friday).

After the completion of eight rounds, three players finished with seven points each. However, Md. Ataur Rahman secured the title on tie-break points. Sk Ruman Ur Rashid became runner-up, while Candidate Master Md. Jamal Uddin finished in third place in the meet.

Md. Aminul Islami Hridoy secured fourth place after his position was decided in a tie-breaking system. Md. Anichuzzaman Jewel and Firoz Ahmed finished fifth and sixth places respectively with 6.5 points each.

Six players earned six points each and finished seventh to twelfth places respectively. They are Farhadur Imam, Sarwar Hossain Ullash, Sk Rashedul Hasan, Md. Foajul Islam, Neeloy Debnath and Mukitul Islam Ripon.

Special prizes were awarded to Woman Candidate Master Warisa Haider, Habibur Rahman, Azaan Mahmood, Ahnaf Shehzad, and Muhtady Tajwar Nasheed.

A total of 132 players participated in the eight-round Swiss-League format tournament. 

The winners’ were awarded cash prizes, chess books, and certificates.
