Karnaphuli crowned champions in Late Bellal Hossain Memorial Cricket Tournament

BAGERHAT, May 8 (BSS) - The final of the Late Bellal Hossain Memorial Cricket Tournament was held this afternoon under the auspices of Swarnatara Ekta Sangha at the Khulna residential area ground.

Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of Mongla Port Authority, attended the final as the chief guest.

In the title-deciding match of the 10-team tournament, Karnaphuli won the toss and posted 170 runs in their allotted overs. Chasing the target, Surma were bowled out for 147 runs, handing Karnaphuli a thrilling victory and the championship title.

Karnaphuli player Suman Shil was named both "Man of the Match" and "Man of the Tournament" for his outstanding performance.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman urged young people in the port residential area to balance sports with their studies, saying sports play a vital role in developing talent and maintaining physical and mental well-being.

He also praised Swarnatara Ekta Sangha for regularly organizing sporting events and encouraging youth participation in athletics.

Among others present were Mongla Port Member (Harbour and Marine) Commodore Shafiqul Islam Sarkar, heads of various departments and sub-departments, and officials and employees of the port authority.

Later, the port chairman handed over the championship trophy to the Karnaphuli team, while Commodore Shafiqul Islam Sarkar presented the runner-up trophy to Surma.
