DHAKA, May 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Coast Guard has seized 1,500 litres of edible oil worth nearly Tk 255,000 in Chattogram's Patenga while it was being unloaded at a jetty for illegal marketing, evading customs duty and taxes.

The information was disclosed today in a press release signed by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan.

According to the release, acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard conducted a special drive on Thursday night in the Charpara Ghat adjacent area under Patenga Police Station in Chattogram.

During the drive, 1,500 litres of edible oil (palm oil), worth around Tk 255,000, illegally unloaded from a ship after evading customs duty and taxes, were seized while being brought ashore for illegal marketing.

However, no one could be arrested as the smugglers fled the scene after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard.

Legal procedures regarding the seized edible oil are currently underway.
