DHAKA, June 04, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain Saikat has set his sights on the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup after earning a recall to the national team nearly four years after his last international appearance.

Mosaddek, who was included in Bangladesh's squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, said consistent performances in domestic cricket had paved the way for his return.

"Domestic cricket is the only platform where players can attract the selectors' attention through performance. I have tried to perform consistently as long as possible. Opportunities come only when you play well," Mosaddek told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.

The all-rounder said he is prepared to play the role assigned to him by the team management.

"Chief selector Suman Bhai (Habibul Bashar) has clearly explained my role. Whether I bat at number six or seven, or bowl five to six overs, I will try to fulfill my responsibilities,” he said, adding that impact matters in the batting position he will play for. 

“Players in those batting positions are not usually judged by statistics alone; impact is what matters most.”
Mosaddek is confident about Bangladesh's chances in the Australia series, citing improved batting conditions and the team's strong bowling attack.

"The wickets have been very good recently. We have been getting quality batting surfaces in domestic cricket and across the country,” he said.

“I expect high-scoring matches. Our bowling attack can now compete with the best teams in the world. If our batters maintain their current form in ODIs, we will have a good chance of winning the series," he added.

Looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup, Mosaddek said strong performances in upcoming series would be crucial to securing a place in the squad.

"Playing in the World Cup is a dream. To achieve that, I need to perform well in the series leading up to it. If I can contribute consistently, I can hope for an opportunity in the 2027 World Cup," he said.

Mosaddek also addressed previous discussions regarding competition for places among Bangladesh's all-rounders. He admitted feeling disappointed at times but said he remained focused on improving his game.

"Naturally, there were moments of disappointment. But such things happen in cricket. Finally, the opportunity has come, and I will try to justify the faith shown in me by the selectors and the people of the country," he said.

Asked about filling the void left by veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Mosaddek cautioned against comparisons.

"When Shakib Bhai was not in the team, we always felt his absence. He is a rare cricketer who can contribute equally in both batting and bowling,” he said. 

“Comparing anyone to him creates additional pressure. Players need freedom and encouragement to perform their best,” he said.
