DHAKA, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - Legends of Rupganj opener Habibur Rahman Sohan rewrote Bangladesh's List A record books by smashing the fastest century in the country's cricket history as he reached three figures in just 45 balls against City Club in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at the ULAB Ground.

Just six days after setting a record for the fastest List A fifty, Habibur surpassed his own joint record for the quickest century.

The right-hander had previously shared the mark with Mosaddek Hossain Siakat, with both batsmen scoring centuries off 49 deliveries. This time, Habibur owned the record, lowering the benchmark by four balls.

His innings did not begin explosively, as he managed only six runs from his first nine deliveries. However, he shifted gears dramatically after striking a boundary and a six off Nihad Uz Zaman in the fourth over. He then plundered 22 runs from Nihad's next over and brought up his half-century in 26 balls.

Habibur accelerated further after reaching the milestone, requiring just 19 more deliveries to complete his century. The opener eventually smashed 130 runs from 58 balls, hitting 13 sixes and eight fours before being dismissed by Abdullah Al Mamun.

The 13 sixes are the second-highest tally in a List A innings by a Bangladeshi batter. Soumya Sarkar held the record of highest sixes, blasting 19 sixes in a DPL match in 2019.

However, Habibur's knock helped Legends of Rupganj compile a hefty 322 before being all out in 44.4 overs. Rupganj bowlers then bowled City Club out for 248 in 44.1 overs, despite opener Sadikur Rahman's 101, paving the side's 74-run victory.

Habibur had already demonstrated his power-hitting form last week when he registered the fastest List A fifty, reaching the landmark in just 15 balls against Mohammedan Sporting Club.

In that innings, he hammered 26 runs in an over from pace sensation Nahid Rana and another 25 runs in an over from Taskin Ahmed.

The record-breaking knock further strengthens Habibur's reputation as one of Bangladesh's most destructive batters.

He also holds the record for the fastest century by a Bangladeshi in recognized T20 cricket, having blasted a 35-ball hundred for Bangladesh 'A' against Hong Kong China in the Rising Stars Asia Cup last year.
