CHATTOGRAM, June 08, 2026 (BSS)- The government has launched a significant initiative to improve internal communication in trouble-torn Salimpur area of Sitakunda Upazila aimed at making it accessible for law enforcing agencies to combat miscreants.

Following high-level directives, the 34th Construction Brigade of the Bangladesh Army commenced construction of four roads in the area last Thursday.

Salimpur, a forest area in Sitakunda Upazila of the district has been recognized as a haven of terrorists for long time.

Lieutenant Colonel Kamrul Al Masud, commander of the 26th Engineer Construction Battalion (ECB) said this in a meeting today at Salimpur.

Local people see this initiative as a beacon of hope for development and a pathway to restoring normalcy in their lives, he said.

He said a road will be constructed from the remote area of Shinnamul in Jungle Salimpur to Alinagar High School, another road from Alinagar-Textile to the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. A road will be constructed from Alinagar to the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) via the Bhatiari-Baluchara Link Road, which will connect Chattogram-Khagrachari Highway, and an additional road will be built within Jungle Salimpur.

As per reports from local administration and law enforcement agencies, this region, covering approximately 3,100 acres, has long been under the control of armed criminal factions.

On May 31, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed visited Jangal Salimpur.
