July Uprising: martyred Rabbi's family wants justice

JAMALPUR, June 12, 2025 (BSS)  –  “Rabbi Mian embraced martyrdom on July 20, 2024 when he was taking food in his room at Sidhirganj in Narayanganj,” Antar Miah said. 

 Rabbi Miah was the youngest son of Abdul Rahim, at  Panchashi village in Sarishabari Upazila under Jamalpur district.  His mother named is  Rajiya Begum.
 

Antar Miah, elder brother of July uprising martyred Rabbi Miah, said, “my brother, a student of EEE (Electric and Electronic Engineering) department of the South East University, never joined any agitation but he was killed inside his room. 


He passed SSC in 2018 from Panchashi high school at his village home and then completed diploma from Munsiganj polytechnic institute and later admitted at South East University at EEE department. 

After completing six semesters, he joined at Walton Company in Sidhirganjn about three month ago and started living at a rented house with a family on the third floor in Sidhirganj. 

On that day, he was taking food inside his room. At that time student- people uprising against the then Awami League government was continuing outside. 

Law enforcers opened fire on the agitated people from helicopter. A bullet hit Rabbi Miah on his chest splitting the steel made door at around 4:00 pm.  Two others inmate of the house including a minor girl and woman also received bullet wounds. But, Rabbi Miah died on the spot.

On the next day, his elder brother- Antar Miah took the body at his village home by a freezing car and buried Rabbi Miah at their village graveyard.

Losing younger and brilliant son, the parents frequently lament for Rabbi. Mother Rajiya Begum demanded capital punishment to all who were responsible for the murder.  

Elder brother Antar Miah, who completed his master degree in political science, has been bearing the family expenses by teaching students in Dhaka. He filed a murder case with Sidhirganj Police Station in September, 2024 in this connection. 

He said, “My poor father bore the expenses of our education by driving auto rickshaw.” In this connection, he requested the government to employ a member of his family. “We want a government job according to our qualification”.
 
After the killing the martyred family received Taka five lakh from July foundation, Taka two lakh from District Administration, Taka two lakh from Jamaat-e- Islami, and Taka 50,000 from BNP.

Deputy Commissioner, Hasina Begum said if the government allocates further assistance, the martyred family will get it.
