Boro paddy, rice procurement drive begins in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - Boro paddy and rice procurement drive for the current season was officially inaugurated today in Kashiani upazila of the district.

The inauguration ceremony was held at 12 noon at the Bhatiapara Food Warehouse under the initiative of the Upazila Administration and the Food Department.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Shahin Mia inaugurated the programme as a chief guest.

Among others present at the event were Upazila Food Officer Md Aminul Islam, Agriculture Officer Ijazul Karim, Food Warehouse Inspector Mizanur Rahman Mridha, Upazila BNP President Golam Mostafa Mollah, General Secretary Sheikh Selim, Volunteer Party Convener Forkan Sharif Tito, along with local journalists, mill owners and farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, the UNO said that paddy would be procured directly from farmers at government-fixed prices to ensure fair returns and prevent exploitation by middlemen. He urged farmers to complete registration and supply their produce within the stipulated timeframe.

According to the Upazila Food Controller's Office, a total of 1,339 metric tons of paddy, 929 metric tons of parboiled rice and 62 metric tons of wheat will be procured during the current season.

The government has fixed the procurement price of paddy at Taka 36 per kilogram, parboiled rice at Taka 49 per kilogram and non-parboiled rice at Taka 48 per kilogram.
