Broadcasting system will be modernized prioritizing public interest: Mahfuj Alam

DHAKA, July 10, 2025 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam today said the broadcasting system will be modernized by attaching priority to public interest.

He made the remark at a meeting on formulation of policies regarding cable TV digitalization, Television Rating Point (TRP) service provision, and Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms held at the ministry conference room here, said a press release.
 
The Adviser said Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, along with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, are involved in matters related to cable TV digitalization, TRP services, and OTT platforms. The responsibilities of each ministry are determined by the ‘Allocation of Business’, he said.

He emphasized the need to modernize the broadcasting system through coordination and cooperation between the two ministries.

At the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said that a technology assessment plan needs to be developed to make the broadcasting system modern and people-friendly. 

Both ministries will decide how to include relevant stakeholders in this plan, he said, expressing hope that the ministries will reach decisions regarding licensing, monitoring, and monetization.

Information and Broadcasting secretary Mahbuba Farjana, officials from relevant departments and agencies, representatives of the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO), and representatives from the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) were present.
