Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses - Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged further due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 8.3 points or 0.1 percent to settle at 5,152 points, as against 5,156 points in the previous trading session.

Market participation remained stagnant with market turnover slightly increasing by 15.8 percent to Taka 4.1 billion as against Taka 3.5 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharma (18.4 percent) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Textile (11.7 percent) and Engineering (10.9 percent) sectors.

Most of the sectors displayed negative returns, out of which Jute (-1.9 percent), Financial Institutions (-1.2 percent) and General Insurance (-1.2 percent) exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse today.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 144 advanced, 179 declined and 74 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a mixed session today. The selected indices (CSCX) declined by 5.7 points, while All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 4.9 points.
