Algerian Ambassador meets Commerce Adviser

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat here today.

During the meeting, they discussed issues relating to improvement of bilateral relations and also boosting trade.

The Commerce Adviser said that both the countries would have to utilize the trade potentials to make sustainable the existing mutual friendly relations. He also called upon the Algerian investors and entrepreneurs to make more investment in Bangladesh, said a ministry press release.

Mentioning that Bangladesh is the 2nd largest jute producing country of the world, Bashir also urged Algeria to import more traditional jute-made goods from Bangladesh.

In response, the Algerian Ambassador put emphasis on forming Inter Government Joint Economic Commission to enhance bilateral trade.

Citing that there is a demand for jute-made goods in Algeria, the Ambassador said that they are interested to import more jute-made goods from Bangladesh.

He also suggested for exhibiting Bangladeshi traditional jute and jute-made goods in the upcoming expo to be held in Algeria.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Additional Secretary M Abdur Rahim Khan and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General (Africa Wing) BM Jamal Hossain were present, among others, on the occasion.
