Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses-- Dhaka Stock Exchange 
(DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-- today plunged due to mainly price 
fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, lost 17.0 points to settle at 4,719 points 
as against 4,736 points in the previous trading session. 

Trading activities remained stagnant with total turnover in the DSE being low 
at Taka 2.8 billion. 

On the sectoral front, Bank (17.2 percent) issues exerted the highest 
turnover, followed by Engineering (12.3 percent) and Fuel & Power (10.3 
percent) sectors.

Sectors mostly displayed mixed returns, out of which Jute (-1.0 percent), 
Food (-0.9 percent) and Telecom (-0.6 percent) exerted the most correction on 
the bourse today, while Tannery (1.1 percent), Mutual Fund (0.7 percent) and 
IT (0.6 percent) exhibited slight gains. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 146 advanced, 167 declined and 84 remained 
unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on the red zone. The Selective 
Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 35.6 
points and 52.8 points respectively.
