Stocks rebound on both bourses

DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - After witnessing a downward trend in the six sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues. 

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, advanced by 22.5 points or 0.5% to settle at 4,638 points as against 4,615 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that despite the market being subdued till the mid-session, buyers eventually strengthened their positions on the trading floor, allowing mild recovery to the majority of scrips following a prolonged period of the market's downturn. 

Meanwhile, lackluster trading activities continued as market turnover declined by 6.6% to Taka 2.5 billion as against Taka 2.6 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank (20.8%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Food (13.5%) and Pharmaceutical (12.3%) sectors. Most of the sectors ended in green, out of which Food (4.0%), Telecommunication (3.4%) and Financial Institutions (3.0%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 217 advanced, 97 declined and 83 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE also settled on a positive note. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 21.58 and 26.24 points, respectively.
