RAJSHAHI, June 22, 2025 (BSS) - A day-long fair related to the Sarbojanin Pension Scheme (Universal Pension Scheme) was held on the Shishu Academy premises in the city today.

The National Pension Authority (NPA) and the Deputy Commissioner's Office of Rajshahi jointly organised the event, aiming to familiarize the general public with the pension scheme and its contribution to the national economy.

Around 200 officials from various government and non-government offices and institutions, public and private banks, and other financial establishments showcased aspects of the pension scheme in 40 stalls.

NPA Member (Administration and Finance) AYM Ziauddin Al-Mamun addressed the opening ceremony as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter chaired the event.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Habibur Rahman, Deputy Secretary from the Ministry of Finance Marjina Akhter, Additional Superintendent of Police Rafiqul Islam, and Additional Deputy Commissioners Mirja Imam Uddin and Jobayer Hossain also spoke on the occasion.

Subsequently, they also attended and addressed a workshop at the conference hall of the Primary Teachers' Institute, highlighting the aspects and significance of the pension scheme. They exchanged views with some of the participants on how to make the pension scheme more successful.

Addressing the workshop, Ziauddin Al-Mamun said the contribution towards the pension is treated as an investment and is eligible for tax concessions, while the monthly pension will be exempt from income tax.

The government will pay part of the subscription for insolvent and low-income individuals.

He also said the NPA has already started its activities, and the Universal Pension Management System has been developed on a fully IT-enabled platform.
