Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, Sept 04, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, shed 17.3 points to settle at 5,614 points as against 5,632 points in the previous trading session. 

Investor participation remained robust, with market turnover slightly decreasing by 4.2% to Taka 13.4 billion. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (13.5%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (11.0%) and Engineering (10.8%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed mixed returns, out of which Life Insurance (5.0%), IT (2.6%) and Financial Institution (1.9%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Ceramic (-2.3%), Telecom (-1.6%) and Bank (-1.3%) exerted the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 174 advanced, 143 declined and 80 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, however, settled on positive terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 21.6 points and 29.5 points, respectively.
