DHAKA, Oct 22, 2025 (BSS) - The Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase today gave approval for the import of a total of 100,000 metric tonnes of rice including non-Basmati and Atap varieties worth about Tk 446.22 crore alongside several key infrastructure and power sector proposals.
The approvals came from the 42nd meeting of the Purchase Committee meeting held today virtually with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.
According to Cabinet Division officials, the committee endorsed the Food Ministry's proposal to procure 50,000 metric tonnes of non-Basmati parboiled rice under Package-02 through international open tender for the current fiscal year (FY26).
The rice will be imported by the Directorate General of Food at a total cost of Taka 216.90 crore. The per metric ton price has been set at US$355.99, with M/S CredentOne FZCO of Dubai recommended as the responsive bidder.
In another proposal, the committee recommended approval for the import of 50,000 metric tonnes of Atap rice from Myanmar under a Government-to-Government (G2G) arrangement.
The total cost for this purchase stands at Taka 229.32 crore, with a per ton price of US$376.50. The supplier will be the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF), based in Yangon.
Additionally, the committee endorsed a major infrastructure project under the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA). The proposal involves the construction of access roads for Mirsarai-2A and 2B Economic Zones in Chattogram, at a cost of Taka 208.99 crore.
Monico Limited, Dhaka has been recommended as the contractor for the package titled WD3-BSMSN-BEZA, part of the ongoing National Special Economic Zone Development Project.
The day's purchase committee meeting also approved the Power Division's proposal for reprocessing the procurement of five new 33/11 KV (1X10/14 MVA) GIS-type substations under the "Modernisation and Capacity Enhancement of the BREB Power Distribution System (Khulna Division), Special Revision" project. The committee endorsed the proposal for reprocessing it under revised procedures.
