DINAJPUR, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - After nearly eight years, the import of apples from India has resumed through the Hili Land Port in Dinajpur.
The first consignment entered Bangladesh on Sunday (October 9) , marking the reopening of a long-suspended trade channel between the two neighboring countries.
General Secretary of the Hili Land Port Importers-Exporters Association Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi confirmed the matter.
He said that legal import of apples from India had been halted for almost eight years, despite significant demand in the domestic market.
“Following a meeting between importers and traders from both countries, apple imports from India officially resumed through Hili port,” Shilpi said. “The first shipment, imported from Kashmir by Chittagong-based company Khwaja Azmir Trading, arrived on Sunday.”
According to Shilpi, a truck carrying 30 tonnes of apples entered Bangladesh around 5 pm on Sunday. After customs verification, unloading began later that evening.
The resumption of apple imports through Hili port is expected to boost legal cross-border trade and stabilize apple prices in Bangladesh’s local markets.
