DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) – Sammilito Islami Bank PLC has received a total of 74,221 applications from depositors seeking withdrawal of Tk 3,925 crore, with the number and amount of applications remaining significantly lower than initially expected, indicating customer trust and confidence in the newly formed bank, according to bank data.

The bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Md. Abedur Rahman Sikder said the relatively lower volume of withdrawal applications reflects the depositors’ confidence in the bank and its ability to protect their interests.

According to the data, the bank received 18,046 applications involving Tk 1,329 crore, followed by 19,613 applications seeking Tk 1,016 crore, 21,086 applications for Tk 923 crore and 15,476 applications involving Tk 657 crore.

Abedur Rahman Sikder said depositors who keep their money with the bank will have the opportunity to receive profit at the rate stipulated in their respective agreements.

Once the bank’s overall operations return to normal, depositors will also be able to deposit and withdraw any amount of money, along with the applicable profit, subject to the bank’s rules and prevailing regulations, he added.

Earlier, on August 31, the Bangladesh Bank’s Bank Resolution Department issued instructions regarding withdrawal of depositors’ money.

Sammilito Islami Bank, formed through the merger of five troubled Islamic banks, started accepting applications from individual account holders for withdrawal of their principal deposits from September 1.

According to the bank, around 18,000 depositors applied for withdrawal on the first day, seeking the return of nearly Tk 1,300 crore.

Depositors have so far sought withdrawal of a comparatively modest portion of their deposits, suggesting that many customers are opting to keep their funds with the newly formed bank, according to the latest figures.
