GAZIPUR, Sep 6, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested three alleged members of a robbery gang with locally made weapons while they were preparing to commit a robbery in Tongi.

The arrestees are Mehedi Hasan Joy, 25; Nayan, 20; and Russell alias Hridoy, 21. 

Police recovered two steel switchblades and a knife from their possession.

They were arrested from the Station Road Notun Bazar area of Tongi late Saturday night following a tip-off that a robbery gang was preparing to commit a robbery there. Several others fled after sensing the presence of police.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees reportedly confessed that they had gathered there armed with weapons to commit a robbery.

Police said Mehedi Hasan Joy has eight cases against him at Tongi East, Pubail, Tongi West and Dhaka Railway police stations, while one case has been filed against Russell.

Tongi East Police Station OC Mohammad Maksudul Alam said the three were sent to Gazipur court Sunday afternoon after a case was filed. Police are continuing drives to arrest the fugitives.
